I have to drive to the Breezewood Area Sunday and wanted to kill some time fishing. I have focused on Big Cove Creek DHALO as a possible place to investigate. Does anyone know anything about it or any other trout streams in the area that will fish well. I like dry fly fishing, so the posibility of a hatch would be of importance. PM me if you wish.

Thanks in advance.

I moved this to the General Forum for a few hours to see if I can get a bite....

A smallmouth excursion would be enjoyable too if the river or creek can be waded effectively.

I'm probably leaving in the next couple hours.

I've never fished Cove creek, but have heard that's a pretty good stream, and it would probably be worth checking out.
Yellow creek is within a half hour or so of that area, and certainly worth visiting.

Jack,
I don't fish Cove Cr too often but it is a decent freestone stream. With the cool temps and good water levels here in SC PA it ought to treat you well. The fish are stocked but there should be plenty of 'em. If you're in the Breezewood area, you might try the Raystown Branch Juniata River for smallies - it's nearby, just north of B-wood. I haven't been there yet this year but if I had to hazzard a guess, I'd assume it's wadeable with some stain to the water. It's loaded with smallies.
Good luck with your trip.

Thanks, guys. I think I am going to head to the limestone Cove Creek south and east of Bedford, but now I have a few backup options.

Cove runs into the Raystown Branch. Fishing near the confluence may give you the best of both...

I fished the one just southeast of Bedford:

Nothing like keepin' your audience hanging...It was obviously beautiful...how's the fishin'? Circle one of these choices:
Poor
Fair
Good
Very Good
Great

I fished upstream where the creek passes through Game Land #97. The water was smaller than the picture, passing through meadows, very limestoney. I spooked a ton of trout and caught one brown trout on a black cricket that had colors of a stockie, but was otherwise wildish. I caught a few dace as well. Moved downstream to an area not too far above the mouth. This is where the picture was taken. Caught a dozen or so 4 inch rainbows on a cahill parachute and one 9 inch brown trout on a white wooly. Finally moved to the mouth and fish the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River where Cove spills in. In about 15 minutes, I caught a brown trout on a size #10 Green Drake wet fly and also a rock bass.

Upstream at 1:30, water temp was 64 degrees and I got the same reading at the downstream location at about 4:00. Weather was bright and sunny, highs in the mid-70s. Water was clear in Cove with the limestone chalk cast and the Raystown Branch was slightly stained but otherwise wadeable and fishable. I wouldn't mind having more time to explore this area of the river for smallies.

could have fooled me-I would have bet it was a sunnies creek but is very pretty-love those meadows streams, all the way up to the Missouri river-the kids can have rugged.lol

Albatross is right about fishing at the confluence you can get trout , smallmouth , panfish etc. and maybe even a muskey and coming soon maybe a striper , we'll see.
