It appears that the battle to save the Ranch section of the HF has been won.

This is a post from another board.

I only deserve a small part of the credit. Every flyfisher in Idaho (and maybe America) owes a beer and a handful of flies to Steve Trafton at the Henry's Fork Foundation. Also, TU's staff including Kim Trotter, Chris Hunt, Chris Wood, and Peter Anderson were also highly involved.

Also, this fight isn't over. I met today with the Governor's aide for natural resource issues. The governor remains committed to a "self-supporting" parks department. Apparently, he does not believe that public parks are a proper use for general tax revenues. Instead, he blieves that parks are only valuable if they somehow are run as businesses that generate revenue. Never mind the positive economic benefits of parks, the conservation element of their mission, the relief and recreation they provide for our citizens, apparently it's only direct revenue that matters. We need to protect our parks from short-sighted governors over the long haul, and I hope to start working on a plan for that ASAP.If you want more info about what went on today, here is the governor's press release: http://gov.idaho.gov/mediacenter/press/pr2010/prjan10/pr_006.htmlAnd here is Trout Unlimited's press release: http://news.idahotrout.org/

good news, at least immediately...we'll still see about long term, I guess! Thanks for the update!
