Biggest trout

My biggest trout on a flyrod. 28"Brown on a BWO dry on the Grand River in Fergus Ontario. Not a lake run fish. It was huge. I hesitate only to estimate 28" for fear of ridicule but I could hardly get my hand around his tail. The tail fin had to be 6" wide.

In PA a 23"Brown on a hopper on a wild Brook Trout Enchancement stream.

Its funny I always tell people you will catch more and bigger fish on nymphs or streamers yet my 2 biggest fish have been caught on drys. Go figure???

12 lb steelhead on a size 14 red and black stonefly.

Biggest in PA was about a 5 lb brown on an egg.

23" Bow on Pink weenie sz 12

19" Brown (1 on sz 10 coffin fly, 1 on sz 8 4x long booger)

Not including steelhead...

My biggest trout on a fly was extra awesome because it was also my FIRST trout on a fly! 19 inch brown on ant pattern. Needless to say, I've been addicted ever since.

Stocked - 30"+ pellet head RT on a #8 Black Bugger, Yellow Creek

Wild - 18" BT on a #14 Blue Quill, Cedar Run

21 inch rainbow, size 18 little black stonefly on a 5x tippet. She took me into the backing.

1. Stocked brown trout: 28"
2. Stocked rainbow: 26"
3. Stocked brook trout: 18"
4. Wild brown trout: 23"
5. Wild brook trout: 11"
These are all Pennsylvania fish. They were all caught and released on public access water. Except for the brookie, I caught them all on nymphs; the brookie took an Adams. The places I fish are not exceptional big fish places. It took me 13 years before I caught a fish of 20". I guess I was/am a slow learner.

All in Great Lake tribs

Steelhead...several 36"to38" on various egg patterns and nympths size 16 to 10

Brown Trout...28" to 32" on glo bugs,nympths size 10 to 14
Local water...over the years caught some big fish but not on flies.

so far on a fly was the 17 inch rainbow taken on a sparkle flash woolly bugger. But I have only been fly fishing again for about a year. Never took it seriously when I was a kid.

I think all of them were on some variation of woolly bugger except for the wild brookie ( Royal Wulff ) and stocked brown ( Midge dry )
