PaFlyFish Photography Awards 2009

The power of photography is a wonderful way we capture and share our perspective for fly-fishing. Those images are moments in our life we see forever. This year has been an especially fun and exciting year for sharing those memories.

We’re proud to recognize the winners of the first Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Photography contest. We announced the contest in July. Many wonderful pictures were entered over the summer and into the fall.

Our first place award goes to Tom Frank for his photograph "Early Morning Rise in Paradise.” Tom lives in Bellefonte and spends a lot of time in his neighboring stream of Spring Creek. The photograph was taken as he found himself on one foggy summer morning in the Paradise Meadow. Tom explained that as the fog began to clear and sun started to peak the trout were rising every so often. The one soft riseform captures the essence while keeping the balance of the reflections in the water. Tom’s picture can be found here. rising fly

Josh Slaymaker is awarded second place with his photograph, “Sal on the Letort.” Josh’s deep range of greens and sunlight provide a mesmerizing and tranquil moment on one of Pennsylvania’s most historical trout streams. You can see Josh’s picture here.

The third place award is a photograph taken by Chris Ulmer called, “The Ideal Stream.” Chris’s quiet and serine picture is from Sand Run in Tioga State Forest. You can see Chris’s picture here.

There were several more photographs that we would like to recognize as honorable mentions that were submitted from: Flip Michaels, Anthony Naples, Ryan Gouldsbarry, John Forys, Anthony Pagley, Art Feldman and Craig Bollinger. All our honorable mentions will be part of upcoming calendar.

We are working diligently in getting the 2010 Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Calendar ready for printing. Now that we have announced our winners our efforts to announce more details about the calendar will be coming shortly.

Please congratulation all our winners and everyone that entered in this years contest.

Great stuff Dave. The photo contest drew some top caliber pics and the winners are - of course - beautiful. There are some talented photographers on this site who know a great scene and how to "catch" it when they see it. Kudos to Tom F and all those who submitted photos. I've enjoyed looking at all of them.

All great pix and I'm sure it was hard to pick a "winner". They all seem to capture the essence of fly fishing in PA...

Excellent. I like the frames. You need to teach me how to do that Dave. Congrats to the winners and honorable mentions.

Nice photos, I like pictures of the Letort, with the willows and vegetation, having a person in the frame fishing makes it even better. It's good to have a partner along for those shots. All really nice pics.
