I just read about these bamboo rods in a mag i picked up in Ireland last week, and this is a new one on me :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_splBdOtMo

ultra fast rods, under lined and line hauled to 'whip' the dry out in continous arcs rather than a pause or stop, together with 15ft tapered leaders....

btw - ignore the poor visuals and 70's porno track in the first two minutes - both change for the better.

the intention is to fire the fly under trees etc.

theres some written stuff here too :

http://www.flyloops.net/show_blog.php?blog_id_search=973#.U9mjhZRX-uY

the rods have bamboo ferrules btw.

i'm not sure if its a gimmick or not, but it was interesting to learn about it.

Cheers

Mark

The guy can cast. Thanks for sharing that.

It does however completely contradict the JackM Italian-American casting technique where the line makes a distinctive wop sound on the water.

Easier to see on video I guess.

Maybe him and slinger should get together and compare notes. Slinger can give him pointers on music selection.

BYW, quit following me around, dammit!

I think my video would of been better off with 70's porn music would it not?

Uh oh - is farmer dave gonna find a dead fish on his inbox door?

He's got quite the follow-through.

this is what he calls his "thrust" - i read more on Sexyloops last night. many think that the thrust is more drift forwards of the rod to straighten out the backcast as opposed to the stop or pause.

the use of double hauls and drifting the rod is very similar to saltwater casting where you just aerialise the head and shoot into the wind.

i'm guessing the 18ft leader is needed to offset the force of the cast some and not make a crappy presentation - though i note that this was used in the fast tumbling streams of the apennines, so maybe thats not an issue.

it is interesting but i couldn't see myself using it because the muscle memory is different to the standard cast and i think i'd screw up my timing to much....

i'd still like to have a go at it though, lol.

Its easy to get those sexy loops out of the 7' rod he is using . I want to see him cast with a 9' 9wt .

Have you ever given any thought to becoming a stand-up comedian?

Farmer Dave; being an Italian I don't appreciate the pun.

Lou, there are Italians, and then those that wish they were. The latter cannot contain their jealousy sometimes.

... where the line makes a distinctive wop sound on the water.
Really? Not funny, I think, LOL.
