I am wanting to get this fighting butt for my 6 wt for when I am carping. Does anyone know how it attatches? is it universal? cant find anything out about it. I figured I would check here before calling the manufacturer.

It is not universal. You need the REC seat that matches to it or a seat with the same inner diameter. If you know what model seat you have or can accurately measure the inner diamter of your seat you can see if it will fit. If you plan on retrofitting an existing rod you will need to remove the butt cap and measure the inner diameter. Even if the inner diameter of yoru seat is correct, epoxy or shims under the seat may prevent you from properly installing the butt.

Cabela's didn't seem to list what size or model seats the butt fits. You can find the needed info at http://www.rec.com/.
They will also usually supply technical info upoin request via email.

Also, that butt looks way too big for a 6wt. I have built a few 6wt's with fighting buts and used the smallest ones I could find or made my own in order to get a nicely proportioned butt. (I like nicely proportioned butts.)

does anyone know of a removable butt in production?

Yeah, Cabelas used to sell rubber butts that slide over the butt of your exsisting reel seat.

yeah I saw those, I am looking for more of a fighting butt. i have a stiffer 6 wt that I dont use often, and want to add a fighting butt to it so I can take it along as a back up for carp.
