I had a discussion with someone today the renewed my interest in getting a handheld device for fly fishing streams in PA. Awhile back I looked into a handheld GPS to do the following.
Mark pools or spots that have fish
Mark Access Points
Keep a geo-type log of my success
I don’t need one for driving because I rely on my truck's Garmin
When I visited places like Basspro or Cabelas to look at the Lowrance model, I could not find the streams that I fish on the maps. I thought that was odd because I’ve found the streams on just about any mapping software I’ve ever seen. They claim that I need to order some additional mapping software but when I asked if I can see how that software would look in the Lowrance they said that they can’t open the software. So the only way I would know for sure is to buy the handheld and the software.
Does anyone has any experience in doing this or am I completely nuts?
