I want to tie some crane flies. I plan to use PT or microfibetts. Any help with tying the knots would be appreciated. Any favorite recipes would be appreciated too.

I think Davie Mcphail has a youtube vid on knotting pheasant tail legs. Try searching that up. Sorry I don't have a link.

A friend of mine uses a knitting too to assist. IIRC, its a cross hatch needle?

Its basically a thick metal needle with the eye broken open to the outside.

(awesome ASCII example there)

That, but the version available at your local fabric store.

This is what I use. It works great.

The tools described above are great for tying 3-6 fibers at a time for hopper legs. For crane flies you want single fibers and Davies method is the easiest way to go.

That tool is called a knit picker. Its used to pick nits out of knitted sweaters, blankets, etc. You can get them at any craft/fabric store or Walmart for under 2 bucks. I guess the price doubles when you change the name to a fly fisherman's knotted leg tool.
