Hi All,

I recently purchased a fly rod and with the help of some local flyfishing guys and some helpful tips on this site, I was able to catch my first native brookie on a fly. I headed down to Logan Run in Forest County on Saturday. It was awesome! I found out quickly that it is all about the roll cast and sneaking up on the holes when fishing these small streams. The first brookie that hit my fly was tiny, but it didn't matter to me. I was so pumped to actually catch one. I stopped counting after I hooked about a dozen or so. most of them were 3 inches or less, but I was able catch 3 that were 5 or 6 inches. I had a great time. Thanks for all of the helpful tips that you guys post on this forum. I can't wait to go out again. I've posted a couple pictures.

Excellent choice of stream, small yet not choked with mountain laruel and Rhododendron, which can be frustrating.

By the way, it's up to you but the plastic covering on the cork handle is mainly to protect it in the retail stores. Most of us take it off and it then develops a patina from use.

Great job! Sounds like your hooked! Also, +1 to DGCs post, as it's best to take the plastic off the cork handle.

Yeah, I like that one a lot, though there are better ones in the watershed....

I do believe that's the stream where I caught my first brookie, though. In the hole below that falls.

Ha! That's funny about the handle covering. I was wondering why it looked so shiny and new. I thought that it was just a cheapy cork look-a-like. I appreciate the tip. It will be coming off. I need my rod to look worn in, like it has seen many a fish.
