All,

Was fortunate to get out to our local lake today during "lunch" and throw a few casts with my Jumbee Minnee. I am expecting Black and White Crappies any day now. No "Calicos" today but was surprised by a few perch at about the 4 foot depth. Fished on a WF4F floater with 9(ish) foot leader tapered to 2X. Bumped the Jumbee off the bottom and watched slack line for twitches. Numerous follows into shallower water but takes were VERY soft. I caught three in about 45 minutes only because I could see the take. I'm sure I missed a few. "Yella Perch" aren't usually on my radar for a "Flypole Feesh". This Male was leaking milt when I pulled him in on the first cast! They gots the urge ta merge!

I LOVE PANFISH!

I love 'em too.

I tried briefly yesterday at my local crappie hole but the crappies were not around (post cold front?). Anyway, yellow perch are great fun too. I think they're also among the most beautiful fish - right up there with brook trout and redbreast sunfish.

Cool!

Depending upon where you are in Pa, the yellow perch were just starting to spawn last week and should be in full swing this week and next. That may make for good fishing in the shallows over submerged weed beds or along shores where the branches of shoreline shrubs dip into the water.

Yellow perch are absolutely beautiful and so, so tasty as are all fish in the family percidae, and yes, I'm talking to you walleye!
