ok, maybe a dumb question but here goes.. If tricos emerge overnight and into the wee morning hours would it make sense to fish trico nymph patterns in late afternoon evening hours. in my over-winter entomology reading i learned that most nymphs become active several hours prior to emergence. therefore, would this be a good idea if your on the stream late in the day or is this already common practice and i just have'nt seen anybody do it yet ( i have only been fishing seriously for almost a year)

When I lived down yonder south of I80, I fished two nymphs to the Trico(we called it the Caenis back then) hatch and did quite well. One pattern was simply tan fur dubbed to the hook. The other had a body of goose fibers tied similar to a biot with a twist or two of medium blue dun hen in the front. Always seemed to work.

I have had success on spring creek with trico nymphs.
