Hey folks, I apologize if I'm bringing up a topic that's been brought up before. I think I remember a similar question here before but can't find it now. I have some flies that are matted down and some that have some wear on them. I've read before that "steaming" them may help recondition them. Any ideas on the best way to do that or any other ideas/methods that might help ?

Put them in a strainer and set on top of a boiling pot.

Steaming will work and the strainer is a GREAT idea!!!!!

Do not overheat. Depending on what was used to secure the thread wraps, you can accidentally loosen the wraps and unwind the fly. That said steaming is a good revival technique, just go a little at a time, like maybe 10-15 seconds at most. And do them in small groups so that those which respond promptly can be taken out of the steam earlier.
