Those are selected by the hosting company because they are fishing related. We asked about it a while back. On the plus side, as far as I know, every time you click on it it costs DB money. Clicky Clicky!

I think it is a huge assumption anyhow that everyone here hates Donny Beaver. I can honestly say that I do not hate him. I disapprove of his overreaching on the Little J and am disappointed that he is privatizing stream sections that are indisputably non-navigable, but that is not the same as hate. Maybe the turmoil fomented by these discussions is because people hate when they should merely disapprove. Just a thought, is all.

For what it's worth....

I've never seen these ads that everyone talks about.

Here's how:

Get Firefox, a free alternative to Internet Explorer.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

I like it better than Internet Explorer, and I'm not alone in that.

Then, after Firefox is installed...

There are "extensions" or "plug ins" which are basically software addons to improve and customize the performance of the browser. The important one here is called Adblock Plus.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Install that with firefox.

The final step is to get the filterset, which is a list of most of the known ad servers on the net.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1136

Install this and you are good to go.

Now, if you go to a site like www.espn.com, the difference is amazing. All of the stupid ads are gone. This is what is blocking me from seeing all of the ads on other sites, including the Beaver ads on flyfishing forums.

Now, since the owners of this site get paid by these ads, I'll occasionally turn of adblock, or open IE and give em a click or two.

click click click ha ha

and i just checked, i still HATE him the only thing i disapprove of is him breathing air and being above ground!!

just my $1.05

It's good to know where you stand. Thanks for sharing.

Who does use Firefox and what are the benefits?

Well,

Without writing a tome about the advantages of the open source movement....

Ah, the heck with it. I'll post a few links.

Here's a (obviously biased, but all factual) site about making the switch.

Security reasons:

Here's an impartial stance:
http://ask-leo.com/should_i_switch_to_firefox.html

A google search of "why switch to firefox" has tons of other links to sites like that.

And no, I have nothing to do with Firefox, Mozilla, or any other company. I'm just a satisfied user. I've thought about contributing code to the project, among other open source projects... I just don't have time now.

I've used firefox for many years now. Actually IE is the last browser I use, typically only for things that they force me to use their browser to get (microsoft that is). If you like IE firefox might take some getting used to but it is a superior browser IMO. Try it out and see what you think. After all you can't beat free!

Sorry to sidetrack the topic a bit but someone asked.

I have always wanted to try Firefox, but my experience in trying to run Netscape alongside IE was a nightmare. Both browsers wanted to be the boss. I'd click a link using IE and it would open a window in Netscape and related issues. So, my question to the Firefox advocates, can you download and install Firefox without it wanting to be the boss "default browser," etc. In other words, can I open it now and then to see how things go and return to IE without hassle? How about cookies and remembering visits, etc. If I visit this site in Firefox, will IE know which threads are read/unread and vice versa?
