This comes from a PFBC study and is an example of the impacts of AMD and acid precipitation.
"At low pH values, aluminum concentrations ~ 0.2 mg/l can cause mortality in brook trout when exposure to low pH/high aluminum waters lasts for more than one day (Gagen and Sharpe 1987)."

One day isn't much time for acidity to have an impact, so no matter how well the AMD treatments are designed, one event can destroy years of recovery.
