Got done work around 3:30, and decided to break out my long dormant fly rod. Decided rather than compete for dumb stockers on the Pickering (about a mile away) I'd try the farm pond on my mothers property where I was working. A small body of water that we stocked over the years with gills, crappie, and bass. Rigged up with a cone head bugger in black and actually was forward casting into the field and back handing it in due to weeds, reeds, etc. The first cast was short, but picked up a medium gill. The second was longer and yielded a 10'' crappie. Using a greased leader, all you had to do was watch closely, and strike quickly; they weren't pounding, but biting, for sure. Caught about a dozen gills, one crappie, and a 14'' bass in about forty min. Beat it on home before the traffic got too bad. Nice little fix, with minimum effort.
