Hello im new here and came here for some advice on what flys i should use in the lackawanna river,im gonna try and get out fishing this weekend if the river isnt to high

Are you sure you wouldn't rather fish Kettle? :p

But, seriously, here is a link to an article about the river that contains a hatch chart: http://www.flyfishingconnection.com/lackawanariver.html

I am not from that area, so I couldn't be more specific. Welcome a-Board!

Thanks for the link it helped alot!! anyway ill give a intro to myself im a 34 male from Olyphant PA i started fly fishing last year,i had the fly fishing bug a few years ago and invested a few bucks in it THEN,one day after fishing i came home and put all my fishing stuff on my front porch and i came out of my house a few hours later and everything was gone. i guess someone saw me put my stuff there and decided he wanted to do some fly fishing.make a long story short that was the last time i went fishing in about 5 years till late last summer i gave it another shot.and now im back in action.

Try some beadhead caddis nymphs, just beadheads and dubbed body. If you hit trout rising to caddis, use elkhair caddis, size 16 tan body is good for a common caddis on the river.

You might try some big streamers. Use heavy leader!

In the summer, try green inchworms with split shot in the deep pools.

Dear OlyphantLacky,

Also try some beadhead Prince nymphs in sizes from 10 to 16. I could always pick up some fish in the deeper runs on the Lackawanna. If it's high and a little discolored try a size 2 black and olive Wooly Bugger, or maybe a similar sized White Zonker.

Regards,
Tim Murphy :)

I travel to that area a few times a year and have started fishing that river a little. I have not unlocked the code there, but I have rolled a couple of really nice fish. I have been fishing in the Trophy Trout section. The nice thing is you can get below one of those mine drainages in the summer and hit water plenty cold to fish. Go to the Orvis store by all the big box retailers right off Rte 6-he is a nice guy and can give you some good suggestions.

Ditto on the really nice guy. He's so nice he offers FREE FREIGHT on anything in the Orvis Catalog which is a great deal; AND there is a Starbucks right next door!
