Tried to target some carp this afternoon on the perky over in oaks. Well i am a novice at it, but damn is it frustrating. Found tons of them mudding. probably over 20 with a whole stretch of 40+. Was throwing crayfish patterns, just dont know how you can get close enough to get a accurate cast, yet not scare them from your line, you, or the fly.

It's not exactly easy when there's no water to be found.

Keep practicing and use longer leaders. Work on your distance casting. Perhaps upgrade to a WF line if you haven't already.

I have been wanting to do that for a while.

Where abouts near Oaks were you?

The only time I had success with carp on the fly was one of those weird berry situations. They were sipping berries from the surface. Wow was that fun.

Would like to pursue this gamefish more in the coming years...I have trouble finding schools of fish.

They are always cruising, tailing and mudding in the "sanctuary" section of Green Lane Reservior which I believe is off limits to fishing.
