and david...yes matching the color usually works just fine ;-)

I only missed on #3 and #10 unless you want to get picky with the Black and Brown caddis. I said Grannom and caddis.

MKern got 6 right

Afish only missed #3

David only missed #3 also...Again I wouldn't get picky with the Caddis since you can't see the bottom.

Steveo got I think 4 right...unless you count Boxing it where he had like 12

That was fun Sal

I have to make note that I am not crazy about the #3 being called a grey drake. I have to look into that one. I mean come on...a big fat thorax and and the entire fly is not longer than 1/2". (the size of my index fingernail, anyway)

you did better than i would have. ;-)

glad you guys enjoyed it! :)

i agree Maurice i was curious about the gray drake also. But thats what they said it was *shrugs*. If you do look into it...let me know what you find out. thanks.:)

gray drake here is different than out west #3 looks like a western one.

Sandfly,

Thats what I thought too....after looking at the Trout nut site. I felt that the one most closely resembling the one Sal posted was the Drunella (BWO) but this has three tails and Sals has two.

The Pseudo Grey Drake is close but is too long >5/8" and has mottled wings.

I've see the one Sal posted on Kettle 15 years ago and tied #14 BWO's for them. Never saw one again until last year when it was the hatch buster on the Gunpowder in the middle of a sulphur hatch.

Here are pics of the TroutNut.com bugs. And I will try to get Sals bug in last.

In playing the game of what difference do you notice, I see the minor wing is more than half the size of the major wing on the final picture, compared to the drunella, which is less than half. The psuedos are mottled, as Maurice notes, so I don't think that is a match.

adams, BWO, gray wulff...all I need to know.

However I think the first one of the three is Callibaetis, at least as the western version. It was THE fly on lakes above 7000 feet. Here I can only find them calling it a speckled wing east..?...? anyway....

Of course, now I see what jack saw in that fly and the second wing is almost non existent..

Hers another pic of a western slate drake...looking at the background alone (on the original pic) I think its this western pattern.

tom, thats a slate drake...white gloved howdy, dude. Check out the tips of the forelegs.

I see what Jack is saying too about the secondary wing size. Good spot Jack...like I said, I don't know. All I know is that Drakes are considered "large" flies and the one listed as the grey drake is like #14-#16

also number 8 has 2 tails and 10 has three...can they both be slates?

just notices sal gave the answers...duh

I didn't bother because I usually suck at these things but I was surprised that I actually got more than half right guessing. I usually just ask, "dude, how big and what color is it?"

Slates have two tails....#10 is a Blue Quill. Much smaller fly than a slate drake but the photos show no scale so its tough. I didn't see that third tail till you pointed it out. I WAG'ed it a rfemale slate drake. Blue quills are a mystery to me. I've seen scads of spinners but obviously not the duns
