Weird day on the water today. I hit two brook trout streams on two different mountains and ran into the same biting midges. They were unbearable and everywhere.

With temps near 70 lots of other bugs were hatching, but the fish were reluctant to rise. I had a few on top, but eventually switched to a wet fly for more consistency. Then I landed this ugly guy. Just had to snap a few for evidence. What do you think, birth defect or hook injury?

I caught a brown that had the same thing. It was missing it's top jaw. It was really weird looking.

wouldn't you or your kids be weird if you inter breed for eons. do I hear the song from deliverance ?

same on this wild bow... it happens

Birth defect! It's black fly season, I went out after work the other day and ran into them on Cold Run. Fishing was very slow for Cold Run. Stopping at Heislers Dairy Bar is always a winner.
