Rod Sling

I'm looking to get something for my trip out West that will allow me to easily carry a spare rod into the wild. I would like to have something that will allow for the rod to be set up and ready to go (as opposed to strapping an extra tube to my pack and throwing a reel in).

I was looking at this:

Does anyone have any experience with this or anything similar?

We used to pop a PVC cap over the end of the rod tube and use it as a walking stick when I did that in Idaho. I came up with teh PVC part after noticing my buddy's (who'd been doing this for years) tube no longer had a bottom.

Setting up takes no time. On the other hand, falling and breaking your rod because its not protected can ruin a trip.
