My light weight rod that i sometimes use on the smaller stocked streams is a 3wt. The reel on it is nice, smallest ive found. Except it has no adjustable drag. Thus the problem being its real easy to rip line off it. That being said it sucks getting into a decent fish and it surprisingly spiderwebbing the reel at times. Mostly when it darts its few last times when trying to be landed. Does anyone habe and tips, tricks or even reel modifications to make fishing this setup more enjoyable?

Bend the spring so it puts more pressure on the pawl. Don't go nuts, or you'll break it. Do it a bit at a time until it's where you like it.

Don't ever take your hand off the spool. Grip it closer to the reel, and use your pinky to apply pressure to the reel.
