Has anyone used this for Steel? I bought a Lamson Reel on close out and it came pre-loaded with line. The line they added is the Courtland Precision Tropic Floating line, which appears to be salt water line. Interested in if I need to replace it for Steelhead.

Thanks,
Mike.

Not sure the word Tropic suggests warm weather. Might get a little stiff in Erie.

Looks like the difference between some of the Steelhead lines is Nylon Braid (Steelhead) vs. a Mono Braid Core (Tropic). Not that this difference makes any sense to me on how it will perform.

I'd at least try it before I replaced it.

I called Cortland. It's useless under 60 degrees because it will feel wirey and have too much memory due to the mono core. Bummer. Who would've thought they would put tropic fly line on a reel. Perhaps it's on there because it didn't sell.

You could always take a fly fishing trip to Fla and then change it...

use it for warm water fishing..or put it on e-bay .

I vote either ebay or...

"honey, I got this new reel and it is set up for some salt water. I don't know what those guys were thinking when the put it on, but I can't use it here... what do you think about a small impromtu vacation???"
