I picked up a full skin and was wondering if any of you guys use these feathers for tying your flies? They are really nice with all of the spots, and remind me of an opposite grizzly pattern.

I use them for collars on big marabous or rabbit strip flies. I usually just buy the strung feathers dyed different colors.

Same as turkey

Spirit river makes them with UV infused
Tied with it
Haven't fished it

I use them for Bass, Salmon and Steelhead flies, they just seem a little too large for most other applications :-(

One of my favorites for tying flies for night fishing. It's surprise to me that they aren't used more often.

Midnight, what makes them so usefully for night fishing?

Guinea skins have a lot of broad, stiff feathers that move a lot of water. They're mostly black, which tends to be the most effective color. White is the second best color, and guinea feathers have some white in them too (perhaps this matters, perhaps not, but contrast is a good thing IMHO).

Also, they make attractive flies. Aesthetics never hurt.
