Nice to have a friend in the business. Hunk of granite weighs about 40 pounds and will make a great tying area. Get out the Ott light and Thompson Model A, pub glass for size reference:

I was in the business for close to 10 years. Thankful to be out. I have a buddy that has the OK to dumpster dive a local to him shop. He makes vice bases for friends.

I took an old metal screw in piece off a cheapo cabelas base and epoxied it to a piece of granite I got for free at a kitchen showroom near my work. I love it.
