I tied up a bunch of hot spot hairs ear and modified pheasant tail nymphs today. Sorry, still no luck uploading photos on here. Headed out to Sturgis next week and going to do some fishing while I'm out there. Stopped to pick up some hoppers and figured I'd try something new and give these "new fangled" hot spots a try. I tied them up with hot pink and chartreuse spots. I've never fished them and was curious what kind of luck you guys have had with them.

I add a chartreuse hot spot to many of my nymphs now. If it's a bead head nymph after finishing the fly I just add enough thread wraps behind the head to make a visible collar. No bead head, I'll just finish the fly than add wraps of chartreuse thread to the head.

Less is more if you know what I mean.

Thanks for getting back. Have you hooked up on hot spots when nothing else seemed to draw a bite? Been skunked on the hot spot until you went to something more "natural"?

Yes to both. Same goes for bead vs no bead.

Yep - that's why my nymph box is packed with all sorts of options.
