This is how I tie an earth worm. These are going for a box for bluegill and panfish, but they work for trout as well.
Super simple to tie. I cant remember who made this ultra chennile but the color is called earthworm. Brown would work as well.
step one is to thread the hook and weight it from just above the hook bend forward, leaving a gap for the worm extension just behind the hook eye.
step two is weighting the hook back so it is more of a double wrap. I did this with .015 wire.
step three is securing the rear worm extension
step four is wrapping your thread up, and wrapping the chennile around the hook
Step five is to secure your top extension and cut to length.
After this just take a lighter to go over chenille to have the fibers bond together and give it a more natural worm shape.
Step 7 is the finished worm with some wax worm flies I am doing for pan fish.
LOL some may call these cheater flies, and I don't like to use them on trout but they will work.
