I tie quick and dirty "guide flies", nothing fancy. Need a vise that is equally utilitarian. Any recs?

I am quick and dirty too. Nothing but silk, fur and soft hackle. Nearly all 14s and 16s. I have a Renzetti Traveler - great vice. But most of my flies are tied on a very old Thompson model A which is the definition of quick and dirty.

I still use my Thompson A. Done so ~35 years. Still works for me.

i use a renzetti traveller and have no regrets

Since the renzetti is in the conversation, I'll add peak to the mix. Its a very good vise at the same price point as the renzetti. After that its a ford/chevy whichever you like better decision.

For bang for the buck in terms of quality vs. price, I don't think you can do better than the Griffin vises. But I say that having never owned a Peak or Renzetti. Also, some folks don't like the thumbscrew rather than cam of some of the Griffins. I don't mind it though..

I don't understand the price point of the Traveler, isn't there a workable vice for under $100?

RLeep2 gave you the link above for Griffin vises. I am not really familiar with them and can't recommend them from experience, but they have a rotary model priced at under $100 > https://www.griffinenterprisesinc.com/index.cfm/product/18_2/odyssey-spider.htm

J Stockard has a Regal "clone" rotary vise for $40.

I went and looked at the Stockard vise referenced in the post above. It appears to be the same vise I bought in the Cabelas bargain cave many years ago, branded as a Crown vise.

I use the Crown for most of my Pike and largemouth flies rather than fadiddle around re-setting the parallel jaw pieces on my thumbscrew Griffin for the bigger hooks. I think the Crown is a pretty good vise. It certainly does what I want within the use limits I have for it. Holds hooks very firmly and the rotary feature (which i don't use anyway..) is pretty simple and efficient. I'm not sure though if I'd try to tie any fly smaller than a 12 or 14 with it. There's a lot of jaw material to deal with. Other than that, I think its a good vise..

wolf atlas or anvil

I find the dual thumbscrew a breeze to set and trust it's longevity. The original Renzetti Travelers were also dual thumbscrew and are still going strong. I concur with Griffin Odyssey Spider as the top choice for rotary under $100

I've been using a Danvise for years, many years. Good adjustment and I've tied size 2/0 to 28 in the same jaws. I have tied hundreds of dozens of flies on my Danvise.

Late to the party on this post but I and 3 of my buddies tie on peak rotarys. The price point was perfect for college kids and the extra jaws are pretty cheap. Saving up for a regal SS jawed Vice now but my peak is my go to right now

After some advice from a poster on this site, I finally broke down and bought the Peak Rotary. I loved it so much that I added the midge jaws and cam. I still can't tie worth a damn, but it is a lot more fun.
