They are basically bunny leeches. Like GG said, they are supposed to represent decaying chunks of flesh. The salmon river is full of rotten meat in the fall, and the steel and browns are fat with it.

I wouldn't put a 7 wt. or flesh files away.A trip to the Ontario Tribs will be a good spot for them.imo Or Cattaragus Creek .

If I had any interest in trib fishing right now, they are probably what I'd use. That, and streamers. The dropbacks are going to have the feed bag on.

I just can't get excited about steelhead after the deep freeze lifts. It's hatch time.

The "chumfly" that mid atlantic saltwater fly fishers use for blues and such is pretty much the same thing i think , i was going to say that the Lake Ontario tribs would be a good place to use that 7 wt. with a flesh fly but y'all beat me to it. AK...........don't overlook the streams you have in WV , some real good mountain brookie fishing there.
