Added a small amount of lead to the 12’s. I didn’t think the hook alone would sink the squirrel hair. Never used them before but I’ve been seeing them discussed on several panfish sites. I had all the materials except for the legs. I cut them off an old spinnerbait.

Some encouraging folks have been helping me get the Elk Hair Caddis adjusted correctly. I invite any constructive critiques....its a good way to learn.
It seems that Al Troth invented this fly along the Loyalsock where I caught my first Palomino exactly 50 years ago. While I don't fish much for trout, and while I do understand some of the controversy around stocking procedures in PA, I will never forget that day. It was rainy all weekend and on Sunday morning the sun peeked out for just a moment and there it was, that golden orb flitting around in the current before me. WHACK! He grabbed my red worm and I grabbed him. Seared in my memory like as if a Rite of Passage...I became a Palomino Man. It was April 1970.
Far off in the distance there are 12 and 13" Bluegills taunting me to chase them as it they were the Siren's of Hercules fame. So when I learn a new trout pattern for trout it is usually because I'm about to visit My west coast kids in Utah, ID or WY. I choose the patterns that are must universal because once my visit to the west is over the remaining flies must be good for catching warmwater species.
The EHC is definitely one of the universal flies and I am finally learning it. Troth apparently preferred his tied onto a 16-2x dry fly hook. I'll be ordering some soon but for now I prefer the wide gap, barbless 14. I also have used #20 dry fly and #12-4x Streamers.
If any of you knew Al or have met him feel free to mention it here. I know he moved to the Bozeman area years ago but then ........

Thanks you Afish. Perhaps you're a mind reader. I just saved this Flagler vid to my desktop last Friday and added it to my list, haven't tied it yet but will shortly. Thanks again.
