I know it is a ways off...anyone thinking they might hit either of these. I have never gone to the FFE in Somerset. Is it worth it?

Is there any fishing in Jersey that time of year in land?

I seem to remember a PFF meet and greet last year...sort of impromptu...

Somerset is worth while if you're in the market for new gear. I drove up to pick up a new rod a few years back. There are some good deals up there..Decent fly tying supplies, collins hackle sets up a booth there. I wouldn't bother fishing NJ, the show is more of a mid winter break for me..

Dear Jerry,

The FF Show is geared totally to fly fishing, the PA Sportsman's show is geared more towards hunting and fishing travel destinations than it is to fly fishing or fishing tackle in general.

Both have their place obviously and the Sportsman's show might be more of your cup of tea if you are into hunting or if you are planning some kind of destination travel.

If you go to Somerset the limestone streams of the Lehigh Valley around Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton are only about one hour west on I-78. There are also some streams in the area of NJ but I am not very knowledgable about that area so maybe someone else can help you with that.

Merry Christmas to you and your's!

Tim Murphy 🙂

I go to both.

The same group that produces the Somerset show is also producing one outside Philly in Valley Forge in March. I will probably go to it as well to see if the vendor turnout is as robust as Somerset.

As stated above the Somerset show is strictly fly fishing where as the Eastern Outdoors show in Harrisburg covers all kinds of hunting and fishing. Over the past few years there has been more and more fly fishing vendors.

I am so used to going to Somerset in January that I am just sure that I can wait until March though 🙂

I would also hate to skip Somerset only to find out that the VF show is significantly smaller.

Well, it looks to me like the VF show is the exact same show as Somerset. I didn't compare the vendor list directly to the one in Somerset, but the list is fairly expansive nonetheless, and many of the vendors I remember at Somerset are listed for VF.

Since VF is MUCH closer, I think I'm skipping Somerset and just going to VF.

Me too! I stay outta New Jersey as much as I can.

Hey do you know the difference between garbage and a girl from NJ?

Sometimes the garbage gets picked up.

Good joke... my wife is from New Jersey. I am looking forward to the Somerset Flyfishing Expo. I can't miss it and always look forward to the opportunity to burn some holes in my pockets!

I have been trying to make the Somerset show for a few years now. This year, weather permitting, I'm all dialed in. I have a few different guides I want to meet and speak with this year. So I am not taking chances with trying out the VF show. Although VF is WAY closer. Might it even do both, depending on the weather.

Any plans for a meet?

Check if your guides will be at VF. Website has a list of exhibitors attending:

Still waiting for them to post the programs and seminars....

FYI, the list of vendors, guides, etc. is generic since that listing is the same for all shows. There is no guarantee that anyone on the list will be at any particular show.

Also, I received a flyer in the mail for the Somerset show a few weeks ago listing all seminars and classes. I'm not sure if that list will be available on-line.

Apparantly you're right, the link for each show takes me to the same page.

But I will say this is highly misleading! Very poor design for the website. There is a separate "exhibiters attending" list for each location. It's also placed alongside the celebrities/authors, programs/seminars, and directions for each location, and these categories are indeed different for each location.

The logic to any reasonable person looking at it is that the "exhibitors attending" list is specific to each show.

BTW - slightly off topic...but not really.

If anyone from the LV is going Sat morning and wants to carpool send me a PM.

Think I am heading out Saturday with HA

Heading up with a buddy from the Pottstown area.

Agreed and I checked with the guide, who said he'll be at the Somerset show for sure.

I'll probably end up checking out the VF show also, unless the weather breaks early.

I'll probably be heading down Saturday - assuming my frined goes with. If not I'll have to decide if I want to drive myself.

A hunting club down here in the guestopo state of maryland charters a bus for the trip to the sportsman show it's like 30 dollars for a seat. I'll be up friday on the bus. It don't take long to fill up the bus.

The VF list is not up-to-date. I know a bunch coming from Ohio. My buddy Mike Schmidt, Kevin Compton and a few more will be tying.
I'll be there tying and in the Authors booth. I don't think they have me down. Looking forward to seeing Ed Shenk again.
I will have my own table..Yea me. Actually going to promote my guiding a bit more at VF. Also bringing my wife along to help at VF.
