So you want to counter-shade without the darker marker bleeding through to the light side? This works for the only flies I'm interested in doing this for: golden stonefly nymphs: use a yellow marker on the already yellow underside. Then mark the top with the darker marker. Still, be carefull. But I've seen the golden material soak-up the dark marker the instant it touches. If that capillary uptake is already used, the dark won't be taken up as readily. I have tried using the verigated chinille, but it doesn't create anything like the effect I see on a golden stone. I"m not entirely over the yellow bustard Fly-Skin overlay, but I also do this. Using the small chilline or ultra, I just lightly touch the top surface with a brown marker. Using jig-style hooks, it's VASTLY easier to just mark the top (and in this case, TOP is the conventional hook BOTTOM)
in case this helps.
