Hope someone can help a old retired fellow out! Been waiting for some rain to head to little j for 5 day camping trip. See the flow is 350 will it be fishable or muddy with the recent rain? Plan on tent camping at green hills. One last thing will the leaves be a problem yet. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

350 is a perfectly acceptable CFS. Just a sidenote, but CFS and clarity are often not related at all. A quick and very hard rain can turn something into pure mud but the CFS may not really spike. The leaves will not be a problem at all.

I agree that 350 is a great flow for the LJ. One thing to add is that depending on where along the river you plan to fish, the flow will be higher or lower. The gauge is above Spruce, and if you plan to fish close to where you camp and in the gorge, there will be more water down there. It went up pretty quickly from 150 to 300 and looks to be settling down. They are calling for another .85" of rain in Tyrone overnight, so it should come up a bit more. If you move upstream a bit, closer to Ironville or Birmingham you should see less water. Either way, looks like it should fish and the weather looks great next 7 days.

Thank you.

Sure. Frankstown branch is a good trout fishery as well as a mix of warm water species. Spring Creek is less than an hour drive. Yellow Creek in Bedford county is probably about an hour. Many smaller streams too, just use the map on the PFBC website.

Good advice above on Frankie and smaller tribs. If you have no problem driving, Penns is about 1.5hs from that part of the LJ and it’s fishing incredible right now. It’s had the most consistent bugs I’ve seen in a long time for the fall. Slate drakes, October caddis and great flows.

Webcam on the nearby Frankstown Branch of the Juniata. Water clarity would be generally similar here to what you would find on the Little Juniata.

it will not be mud. Maybe off color Wednesday. In good shape Thursday.
The frankstown takes longer to clear than the J. If that looks ok (assuming no isolated storms) the J should be good. The only question mark is the rain on the farm lands between state college and spruce creek PA. Spruce creek and its tribs run through farmland and some fields have been plowed already. This area received gentle rain recently and the ground has been sopping it up so I don't expect much dirt coming down from Spruce creek. Worse case, if you're willing to fish above Spruce creek all should be good.
Another surprising source of dirt is sinking run, which comes in on the surface and underground near the junkyard.
Greenehills. Is it still operational? Check. It was sold recently. I think it is, but it's worth looking into.
FYI to all: the actual camping ground is not within the fishing easement boundaries, but the surrounding land is so fishing will not be restricted in the future regardless of what the new owners do.

Greene Hills is still open thru October, as is the norm.
And apparently - according to a friend who camps there - the new owners are gonna keep it a campground next year too

If this is the OP's first time tent camping at Greene Hills, be prepared for frequent train whistles through the night.
