Winter into early spring is not far away and small black stoneflies are the first dries to fish at that time.

Here is a great looking little black stone pattern tied by Tim Flagler that I plan to tie this winter for the upcoming season.

The wally wing tie looks great on this pattern.

I used this pattern last year and it works VERY well

Ditto. I met DK on the banks of Penns last winter, we both had that fly on.

I also once tied it on when small dark caddis were around just for the hell of it. Totally worked.

Little Brown and Black stoneflies seemed like a worthy way to knock the rust off. They'll do but still not back to form yet.

Nice pattern although in all the years I have been fly fishing, I never found the need for anything but an appropriately sized EWC for the Little Black or Little Brown.

One advantage to an EWC or should I say an EWS is it skates across the surface like a dream, which for me is a necessary tactic when the "littles" are on the water fluttering about.

Those are good suggestions and are probably more durable as well.
