Looks like a pseudo. Throw a caddis or an ant at emView attachment 1641237151a little blurry but is this a Pseudocloeon? never thought i’d find myself fishing flies this small
thats what i’ve been trying but only have them in 20 and 22s.. i can’t find anywhere near me that has 24’s or smaller but yeah that’s what i though i saw were some pushing 26A Baetis BWO in the right sizes (is that a #26?) might get it done.
are you typing patterns specific to this then? i read on trout nut about them being a green upon hatching immediately but the ones i see seem real light colored just was unsure of this after looking at those trout nut picturesPseudocleon carolina is now named Acentrella turbida. Same insect, new latinized name. Little olive or Pseudos works for me. Troutnut is a good reference.
I have to put them in a bottle. If I relied on my terrible memory I’m certain I would have no clue what it measured when I got home.I tie a BWB in sizes 18 - 24 which in my fly box is identical to my BWO pattern (a thorax or parachute) with the exception of a brown body, usually dark brown.
It covers all the little brown bodied flies I encounter no matter how many times they change the taxonomy.😉
If that isn't small enough, I have smaller stuff and I don't fret about the color...
In regards to size, for decades I have been carrying a metric pocket ruler that I cut down to 3" with a Dremel tool.
I use it to measure the body size of the naturals I encounter. It takes all the guesswork out what size to try or tie when I get home. If I encounter a natural fly bigger than 3"...
I'm getting my a$$ out of there...

i think even saw smaller at one point hahahaha i will admit my last mole fly from troutfitters worked but it eventually gave in after some time of me putting my pliers on itI realize I'm somewhat late to this discussion...
I'd identify the photo as a BWO that is too small for me to see on the water, leading me to use a pattern that's "close enough." (Why do I catch half as many trout as everyone else? 🙂)
For little stuff, "good enough" always includes a hi-vis wing/post/parachute.I tie most of my small dry fly patterns with CDC as it is remarkably visible at distance. It does require some maintenance.
