Here we go again!! Darby creek swimming!!

I completely agree that people need to pick up their trash, and those that don’t are the worst of the worst. But I don’t agree that a stream should be off-limits for swimming or tubing or other recreational uses. We deal with the same thing here in Baltimore County where the Gunpowder is crowded with tubers and hikers…however, they have just as much right to use the stream as anglers.
And one must remember that the Clean Water Act promised to make streams and rivers 'fishable and swimmable.' The point of public policy is to benefit the public. Like you I detest trash. As pretty as Oregon is, people here seem to find it necessary to dispose of their trash along highways, and rivers, particularly in urban areas.

Saucon Park in Hellertown had a similar situation. In that case, it was visitors from NY as well as Jersey. The biggest issues were that they weren't individual family groups but very large groups. The response was to enforce the use of the Park for residents only.
Stroud township did something similar 5-10 years ago for parks along Brodhead creek. They started charging for usage by non-locals on the weekends. This kept a lot of people from overpopulating the parks as most didn't want to pay $20 a car. I think locals were considered Monroe county residents but my memory is a little fuzzy.

Before they started charging the front platers, locals referred certain sections of Brodhead as "Puerto Rican bathtubs". They even used soap while in the creek. 🤣 It was crazy. I haven't fished tricos there since.

Side note...I happily learned recently that PA game commission has limited the amount of elk tags to non residents to 10% now. This is a huge step forward. I have 17 years preference. This may be the year!

When I lived in E-Burg, the $#!+show along the Delaware with loud obnoxious A-holes from Joisey & NYC from Shawnee north was ridiculous and I'm talking the 1990's.

Later, we discovered all it took to get some solitude was to go to Warren or Sussex Counties on the Joisey side to escape the A-holes who I assume besides being inconsiderate A-holes had no understanding of geography or tolls...

Does NJ and NY not have creeks or pools?
🤣
the NJ areas get overrun with NY cars. Run across DWG on a weekend and check out Dunnifield Hollow parking area. One of the few streams on public land that stays cool enough fish all summer and has wild fish is unfishable except when it rains. Pretty much every day from Memorial day to Labor day.

Swimming is allowed. I can’t find anything that says otherwise on Lansdowne borough page. What isn’t allowed is groups of more than 20, drugs/alcohol and littering. This isn’t a couple local kids swimming. This is a full blown lazy river event of large groups. I wouldn’t mind if they cleaned the creek and kept it trash free from the garbage the washes downstream after a storm. Of course I could fish elsewhere. I have fished here for 40 years. Back when the falls and the big can were there. Occasionally people swam there. This seems to be a regular thing from when the thermometer goes over 75 in may. I usually switch to chasing stripers or fishing saltwater when I have the time.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the state removes it from the approved trout waters list in the near future. I guess I should just add it to the list of reasons to move from the area.

Took my son to Darby Creek to learn how to fly fish. The creek in the summer is loaded with small sunnies and fallfish. We went to Hoffman Park in Lansdowne/ Clifton Heights. When we arrived the parking lot was overflowing with cars and traffic. There was a Lansdowne cop parked with his lights on. We parked and walked the holes. Every hole was filled with 10 or more people swimming. The bank was littered with trash and some people drinking and smoking weed. Most of the people were there with their families. Small kids to older adults swimming in the creek. In the stretch from the outfield to Bonnie’s plants there were probably 200 people. There’s no public bathrooms at the park. We walked back to the car and passed the police officer, he shook his head and apologized. He said there’s nothing he can do. He’s complained to the borough manager about it and the borough doesn’t seem to care. We drove to Kent park were there was more people swimming but enough space that we could fish. We caught some sunnies and saved the day from disaster. It’s a shame that a local stream is just being over run by people trashing it. Most of the cars had New Jersey plates. If anyone lives in the area I recommend you go on a weekend to see it first hand and file a complaint with the Lansdowne borough manager. Hopefully the more people that complain then they will pass an ordinance that doesn’t allow swimming. The same thing happened last year in Springfield on Darby creek. It’s bad enough having to clean up after ignorant bait fishermen who trash this area but there’s no way level of disgusting trash be left behind should be allowed to continue.
I was just there this morning fishing the section just below Kent park. Hoffman park has always been a zoo during the summer.

Try the park on Sycamore in Clifton or Indian rock in Springfield, usually pretty quiet on weekends

Delco's gonna Delco unfortunately

I hit the Brandywine down in Wilmington by the zoo on Saturday evening - there were probably 50 people swimming. Full on heads underwater. I’ve wet waded the Brandywine all my life but even I am hesitant to get in up to even my shins in that stretch of the river.
