First on a Fly

My son (7) has landed a good handful of fish on a fly after I've hooked them, but tonight he got his first bluegill, cast to landing.

There was a crazy white fly hatch on our neighborhood pond like I've never seen before, and fish were going nuts. He was pumped. (I credit the Canadian BBQ haze.)

Quite the leg up on this big dummy getting his first fish on a fly rod in 2014 (32 at the time).

The little dude caught his first brook trout today. I only helped with netting.

I’d love to help my grandkids catch a trout on a fly. My oldest is only 3. I guess I’m about 8 years away from that.

My son is 8. He probably started playing with / casting a fly rod when he was 5. With trout, the hardest part is finding somewhere that can accommodate a kid's... unique casting style
