Favorite tail water

I googled that area looks beautiful my kind of hiking and fishing , at 60 yrs old I’m trying to keep old age at bay by walking and jogging 3 miles a day I was a big time jogger in my youth and did several marathons the jogging seems to be coming along pretty good for my age IMO I would love to explore those hills and water

I just got back from fishing the Smith and Dan river in Va. The Smith has 2,500 to 3,000 trout per mile. Most are wild Browns with some wild bows. The Dan is a very remote tail water with wild rainbows in the Grand Canyon of Va. This area is very rugged and should only be visited by those in decent health do to the steep mountain area.
Well...how did ya do? I fished those places a ton when I lived down there.

Plenty of other places down there that are also gorgeous and easier on 60 yr old bones.

You need to get a permit and gate combination to fish the Dan behind both dams. Go online and call ahead for directions to the power generating site, It is not at the same location of the two remote dams. They will give you written permission and a gate combination to enter these areas. They are removing a large mountain area to build a 4 lane on rt. 58. Amazing what hundreds of pieces of large equipment can do. If you like remote mountain area this may be your cup of tea. The largest beautiful wild rainbow was a 12 incher and less than 1/2 lb.
