DeLorme PA Atlas & Gazetteer

I just received my Delorme today - from an outfit called "Books Unlimited 2000", off of Amazon. Problem is, it's the new - 10th - edition. And I don't like it
It definitely said that it was the 9th edition when I ordered it. Guess they either ran out of old ones, or someone screwed up.
And the worst part is, they didn't even put a packing slip in the shipping envelope. Guess I'll have to look up the company, and try to get hold of someone about the mistake.
Anyone else have this problem?

Amazon has a way to send a message to the seller. Send them a message and told them what happened and that you want a refund. Most companies will fix the problem.

I didn't order from that company on Amazon. I got mine in yesterday and it was the 9th edition. I second the complaint to Amazon. Should get your money back. I'm ready to highlight and mark up mine on Saturday!

On Amazon, the different editions are not well separated and labeled.

There is also a way to message the seller BEFORE you buy. If the edition is not named in the description of the item for sale, it's probably good to message the seller and ask them.

I got mine today. I ordered it directly from Amazon and not one of the companies on Amazon. They sent me the 11th edition. It even shows I ordered the 9th edition on the packaging slip. It looks better than the 10th edition, but it's going back regardless.

I haven't seen the 11th edition. What changes did you notice in it?

Troutbert,

To be honest I only looked at it for a few minutes so I haven't done a side by side comparison. Flipping through it I did notice that the stream names were darker and easier to read in 11th.

Sorry to hear Amazon is shipping the newer versions as they are. Jumped in my truck and pulled out my copy. It is my third copy and have learned somehow to keep better care of it of the years. I was shocked to see it it was the 1990 3rd Edition.

I am not sure if I should be happy I have kept such good care of it or that I am getting that old to have the 3rd edition.

After checking out my 10th edition delorme, there was one small improvement over the older ones. The state forest boundaries are edged in green, making them easier for my aged eyes to see.
On the other hand however, most of the state game land boundaries have been omitted
And lots of smaller streams and runs aren't marked anymore.
And they have buffalo run in centre county labeled as spring creek.

They also no longer mark covered bridges and wineries on mine - which is something my wife and I enjoy checking out when driving around the state.

It is definitely dumbed down for outdoors people, and I'm going to send it back

I'm curious what the cost was for the 10th & 11th (JasonS) editions from Amazon?

I have a 4th edition that is still usable, but just barely. It's getting very tattered.

These old editions are still fine for stream exploring. They will not have some of the road updates. For example, my 4th edition does not have the new I99 near State College. But the streams and most of the forest roads haven't changed.

Just for the hell of it, did anyone here happen to find page 63&64 laying along Poe Valley Road one day in May of 2008? My 7th or 8th edition copy is in okay shape, with the exception of that page that I had foolishly torn out for a long bike ride and lost right before I got to Penns Creek. It fell out of my bag right before I got there. It's the page that includes Centre County, which you'd think I wouldn't need if I live here, but I used that page way more than any other. So now that Atlas is useless a lot of the time.

Well, my worst fears have come true. They also sent me that stinking 10th edition! I had a feeling they would do this based on what I'd been hearing around here. And like Jason said, it even shows I ordered the 9th edition on the packaging slip. I included that along with a copy of my original order which also says 9th edition. I told them (The Book Cellar) if I can't get what I ordered, then please refund my money. It'll be back in the mail tomorrow!! Damn, I'm glad my 6th edition is still in great shape because it seems these folks can't be depended on. :-x

imho the 11th edition is fine , its just 1 tool to use for fishing , but nothing beats puting gas in the vehicle , get off your a... and go explore !!!

Have you seen the two side by side? No comparison. Like TB said, the new one is a train wreck! This thread isn't about exploring, which I do plenty of, thanks. It's about an atlas. 🙂

I e-mailed the seller thru Amazon. And a guy did get back to me quite quickly. Said he's trying to find an older edition for me. We'll see what happens. Either way, that 10th edition is going back, though
