Went out yesterday morning to my local lake. (Southeast PA) It was cool and breezy but the crappie were biting off and on and in close to shore. Did well on my pet jig flies for awhile till the sun came out and the bite died. A rookie fly fisher whom I was helping started steadily out catching me. He even said he was just watching and copying my style. Asked what flies he was using and he didn't know so I checked. A tandem of small nymphs probably 14-16; apparently another angler had set them up for him. Lesson learned! Next time I will have some of my trout flies along. Pays to have an open mind. Had a nice crappie casserole for dinner but released way more than I kept. Fishing should continue to improve as the weather moderates.
