Found these photos from Feb. 2020. Nice stream in Westmoreland County. Only caught the one but saw/spooked others. Some day I will get back to fish farther upstream. I didn’t make it to far upstream from were I parked along State Route 381. Someone was hunting small game and I didn’t have orange so I got out of there. I was use beaded red rebar midge.

I live in westmoreland county but go to school in Washington county in PA. Did you catch any wild browns up there?

Had the rainy day off today, decided to make the trip up to the highlands to check out Camp Run. I should preface saying I'm still pretty new to the sport, and this was my first time fishing a small mountain stream like this. Currently only have a 9'-5wt rod, which made navigating the branches and overhangs quite the challenge.
Hoping for some brookies, I had a couple on the line but could not land. Gem of the day came as a surprise, landing a ~7" brown on a pink San Juan worm. In all, not bad for a rainy day. Started looking up 7'6"-3wts as soon as I got home lol.

Camp Run is a little get away from the Somerset Laurel Hill anglers. 95% wild brookies.
First pic is from this year outing, second from last year, I fish only dry flies in small brooks.

It is Westmoreland (close to Somerset)

That is a wild rainbow. Awesome catch, always great to see in place of those weak native brook trout! Only thing better is an invasive wild brown!

Ruh roh. Not sure I had heard of wild Bows in that particular Laurel Highlands watershed before. Just further north in the Loyalhanna drainage.

There’s definitely Browns in the Indian Creek drainage, but this is the first I’ve personally heard of Bows.

Brookie fans aren’t gonna like this.

Rainbows have been a few upper Indian Creek tributaries in small numbers for years. I'm now catching them in a Laurel Hill Creek tributary.

I've fished most of the accessible Laurel Highlands brook trout streams since we moved here in 1990. Wild browns and rainbows are spreading rapidly and it's troubling

Just noticed they are stocking both bows and browns in Indian Creek and bows in Linn Run…..

yeah, never caught anything but brookies in Linn before. Never fished it anywhere near opening day though. that's a bummer.

So much for the Wild Brook Trout Enhancement stream designation. Not sure how long ago the program was done away with. This type of stream would need a barrier in place to segregate the brook trout away from invasives. Doesn’t help it flows into the middle of a delayed harvest stream.

So we think they're too inept to manage an ecosystem but not inept enough to make a typo? Are we sure they're stocking rainbows in Linn run? Just wondering.

There is another trib of Indian Creek that is class A rainbow, but it's below the Indian Creek Reservoir.

We've got a wild brookie in a net being mistaken for a wild brown and a wild rainbow being called a wild brookie......hmmmmmm.....maybe there is just some confusion of language happening here. I am hoping our members are skilled at ID-ing the three trout we have commonly in the state.

For sure, the brookie advocates aren't gonna like this. All and any wild trout are better than stockies though in my opinion. Looks like a nice little crick.

I have a friend who owns thousands of dollars worth of quality fly rods/reels, several that I wish I had, but he still can't tell a brown from a brookie. He's been at it long enough that he should know the difference.
