Not that this is huge news anymore but apparently the pumps went down again at the Quarry and the Bushkill Creek was dewatered again today. I'm only hearing grumblings so far but apparently there was another fish kill. Such a depressing situation with that quarry. That Creek could be Dynamite if it just had regular water. It's still really good but it would be excellent if they didn't dewater it every 18 months.

Isnt the quarry run by some gents from a long way away who arent exactly environmentalists? I thought that was the story last this came up

Relying on electrically powered devices to keep a creek alive sounds like it could be a problem to me. I realize they are supposed to have backup power, etc., but it seems like relying on pumps to keep a creek flowing is a recipe for disaster.

What was the creek like before the quarry came along and pumped water into it? Or was the creek viable before the quarry, the quarry stole water, and is now trying to keep the creek alive? I'd be curious to know more about the history of the Bushkill in this stretch.

On a side note, I fished the Bushkill back in the fall (Oct 20th) of last year in Tatamy and the Mill Race Park area. Some pretty water, but the fishing was terrible. It was a side trip on the way to see my daughter's field hockey game at Lafayette (next to the creek), so all was not lost. Thankfully it wasn't a destination trip.

I believe last time some very vocal folks connected to the company took to social media to explain how we should all just be appreciative that companies like them keep the gears of commerce churning rather than complaining about what they do with their water.

Ugh. Thanks for the background. It's easy to see how their limestone mining operations disturbed the creek and diverted water. It seems like dewatering events are nothing new - too bad some state agency can't hold their feet to the fire and make them truly accountable. Given the creek's history in that area with dewatering events/fish kills, it's easy to see why the quality of fishing can be directly related to those events. Such a sad and preventable tragedy for the creek 😥
