Team Paflyfish at the Harman's Invitational 2013

Published by Dave Kile [dkile] on 2013/4/30 (1291 reads)
Todd Harman, Owner of Harman's Luxury Log Cabins, approached me this past winter about making sure Paflyfish was represented at this years Harman's Invitational. The Harman's Invitational is a fly fishing competition with two-man teams hitting the North Fork of the South Branch River in West Virginia the weekend of May 3-5, 2013. Typically there are about seven to nine teams represented from the East Coast.

Plenty of big bows and avid anglers in a great setting!

I received quite a bit of interest about this opportunity from several folks on the site. Not to miss out of the fun, Paflyfish rallied Shane "SBecker" Becker and Phil "PhilC" Chadbourn to represent us in West Virginia for the weekend. Shane and Phil will be heading down Thursday to get settled in and prepare for the tournament.

"I think it will be an amazing opportunity to represent the members of the site," shared Shane. "Hoping we can do well for Paflyfish while we are at Harman's this weekend."

Maurice helped make sure we sent the guys off with some new Paflyfish hats and shirts. I just asked them that they have fun and do their best.

We look forward to hearing about the weekend. The event will be covered by Fly Rod Chronicles with Curtis Fleming from the Outdoor Channel and aired at a future date.

Harman's Luxury Log Cabins is a sponsor of Paflyfish. The North Fork does not support naturally reproducing trout and is stocked by Harman's along 1 3/4 miles of water providing anglers with the opportunity to fish for rainbows, browns, brookies, tiger and golden trout. Everyone who has stayed has had rave reviews of their trip to Harman's.

Fly Rod Chronicles with Curtis Fleming airs weekly on the Outdoor Channel. Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m., Fridays at 1:00 p.m., & 6:30 p.m. EST every Saturday.

I LOVE the idea of limiting it to those 6 flies.

Becker and Phil, good luck! Hope you guys have a great time and I know you'll represent paff well!

I'd say if you only have 6 fies, then make sure to bump up your tippet size. Rather not lose any of them. Also have back up nets and rods ready. Time is of essence rather than untangling knots, or having something break.

Most of all have fun! Looking forward to see how you guys fare.

I won a trip there last year and loved it. I booked a week there this year, May 19 - 23rd. From there I'm traveling to Elk Springs Resort for 3 more days. I CAN"T WAIT!

Go get em boys! Watched Phil pick off a nice bank sipper last week and saw Shane absolutely school a 20"+ sucker. They looked like they were ready to me. I think they can top 3 or better if they adapt to the stockies. I'll see you guys in NY later that week.

'make paff proud'....'represent us'!?! lol Good luck fooling those big, planted pelletheads, sounds really tough. Should really be a stern test for all the great fishermen at the tourney lol. Could we get a team together for the Kish Creek derby next week too. Not sure whats more annoying, the idea of such a tournament, or that curtis fleming character in the video link

Any update on which team won? I’m sure Phil and Shane did a terrific job, making the paff team proud. I work with deep sea fishing charters but also love fly fishing. Recently I came across an interesting post about etiquette; so wanted to share it with others here. It’s surprising but just a handful of people know proper fishing etiquette. When it comes to combat fishing, anglers need to understand a basic fact – anyone with a valid fishing license has the right to fish in public waters. But this may mean people scaring away your fish or you rambling on someone’s water. What to do here? Well, maintain a “good distance” from other anglers and ask permission before you start fishing right across from them. If you approach an area and find somebody already there, allow enough space – about two fly lines – that’s 200 feet on either side so that they can cast, fish and move about freely.

Also, explore new territory; don’t spend your entire day at one spot, more so if others are waiting for their chance to fish. You can become better anglers working your way around people, being respectful of their spaces and learning to coexist in harmony.
