Hello fellow fly rodders. This is my first post, I just joined this wonderful site yesterday.
I live in York, PA and I fly fish all the central PA trout streams and I also fly fish the Susky and Juny. I also fly fish for stripers in the surf, so many bass in Nov, Dec and Jan. Lots of great water and I love to tie flies.

Tonight, 8/2, I fished the Susquehanna upstream from Harrisburg from 8:30 to 10:30 with my 5wt Sage Fli and floating line with a 4X and a modified white wulff, size 10, with a drake tail.

95 today with high humidity so the bass hide in winter holding areas until the sun goes down, then they gorge themselves on the white flies.

I wet waded out in the middle of the river and after dark I could see the fish swirling on the top. I tried small white poppers and large white poppers and white sparkleminnows, but not a stinkin' hit. Then I tried skipping my white fly on the surface, but no luck either. So I went back to fly fishing 101, and with a short line I made a no splash cast in front of the fish that were feeding. No movement, it was just that my fly was 50% bigger than the 10 billion flies floating down the river.

From 9 until 10:30 I caught 6 beautiful smallmouth bass on a dry fly in the pitch black dark. I moved stealthy in the shallow water and when I got the moon right, I could see the fish feeding. I just cast upstream from them and had a slow drift with no movement at all.

Two bass were about 12" and three were about 15" and a hog was around 18"! When the big bass hit my tiny fly, he pulled all my line to the backing on the first run.......... I thought wow! a big channel cat. But the bass jumped out of the water about 20 times....... almost too much for a 5wt! LOL Simply wonderful, and in the dark with a 5wt!
