Made it to the covered bridge eh? Shoulda figured Dave would know it. Hoping to head up that way tomorrow. Also hoping for less sun.
The narrows is beautiful, but far from the most productive water on that stream.
Gettin' some serious feathers in yer cap Josh.

I had very good action last night as well, all on beetles.
The color you see is the lake turning as it gets that kinda charcoal tint every year around now and I swear it helps the fishing.

My experiences show mon-tues are the least crowded. Be prepared to cancel your trip and save the money if heavey rains are forecasted.

I personally fish in stocked waters very often and am grateful for those waters.
But if I had my choice....

I've only been there once as I also have a problem going there with other streams that are in the area.
The stream and its fish were very impressive and I pretty much had to talk myself into believing the fish were most likely stocked after I caught them.
No change in fequency of visits.

To me, first and foremost is that you must possess a valid PA fishing license. Not much else happens without those purchases.

I'm moving this weekend and fishing has been sparse as of late. I'm definately ready to go next thursday.
My only communication is going to be these pms for a stretch though.

Its hard to decipher yourself in an accurate fashion. You can do it honestly though. Usually someone else can make a more accurate assesment.
I can do you Paul, theres even a name for it.
"Crowe-kwan-do".
I love'em too.

Was wondering the point as well. Almost seems like its personal or a vendetta of sort.
I have yet to go there to make a draw on the shop, but I know now I'll atleast poke my nose in there if I'm in the area.
Maybe walk in the door and bark out, "Wheres the power bait?"

I always loved their name:
"Traditional Anglers of Pennsylvania".
or
"Corn Chuckers of America"
"Pennslvania Worm Dunkers Association"
"Minnow Threaders Unlimited"
"Trout Ropers Association".

I know, I know. I did all four in my past but I didnt try and camoflauge what I was doing with a classy, dignified name.

He told me a story of how he had foul hooked a large brown and it seemingly came in easy until he went to unhook it and it went berserk driving the hook into his finger and then snapping off. It was bad enough he had to go to the emergency room to get the hook removed.
He went back 2 days later and landed the fish for real, fight and all.

. At the top of this pack would probably be Dave Whitlock (great fly tyer, painter, and writer)

I love Dave Whitlock. Theres never mistaking a trout that was created by him. What a style.
Probably the greatest I fished with was also the most famous, Dave Wolf. Almost effortless fishing with the ability to catch trout keying on specific insects, with generic flies. The biggest key to me is he seems to NEVER leave the water disgruntled. No matter what happens he always seems to be happy he was on the water.

Quit butterin' me up Paul. You're not getting Lucy.

Ducks are a real pain back there, lots of trout but as you spook the ducks you spook the trout.
I believe thats called a variable. :)

They dont fight as well in colder weather, but I have been able to catch some of my very best trout in the colder months.
They are a little less wary and you will have the water to yourself 9 out of 10 times no matter where you fish.
The spawn is coming up and if you see fish paired up over a gravel bed, its recommended to skip them for future years of fishing.

Last year was by far the worst season as far as runs go up there for me and it showed in my catches.
But wouldnt ya know, the weekend we had the jam was about the best runs and fishing of the year.

I fished a stretch that I never fished before, basically going over a bridge and saying "What the heck, give it a shot".
It was like a tunnell. VERY tight quarters and I met quite a few branches while trying to sneak along while still basically in the city.

My first was a solid one at just shy of 14"es on a cricket. I caught this one almost immediately and then went through the usually snobbery these fish are famous for.

Approaching this spot I saw what I thought was watercress waving in the current. Fortunately I recognized it was a huge fish in this tiny stream before I spooked it.
After hiding behind the log on the lower left and trying many different flies, I finally got her to take a rarely used by me stonefly nymph.
The fight was savage but quick as it was so tight here He ended up basically netting himself while going berserk but straight at me.
She gave two of those leaps where you actually hear the fish while its shaking in the air.

A family happened to be nearby and took some shots for me. I remember hearing the gasps as I first revealed her to them.
Yeah, I was big man on campus for a minute.

I tried to stretch it to 25"es but couldnt get a read past 24 3/4es. I couldnt tell for sure if it was wild, but it was obviously in the stream for some time with the red slashes on its tail.
What a treat and unexpected as well.
I ALMOST called it quits just then.

Maybe 15 minutes later, I was back on top with the crickets and iced the cake with this 18"er that had the sporadic spotting that these wild trout are known for. By far my largest on a dry from this stream.
It was a good day for my work, my dogs, and me. With the way things have been going lately I'd like to think I earned this one, but I know thats not true.
As always, I just took what I was given.

I've never been a self proclaimed truck type of fellow, although I have come to realize their worth with age. My work sent me to the truck show in Carlisle to operate a booth there and I never knew the shows in Carlisle were quite that big.

The "Virginia Giant" had a special monster truck there that could give spectators a little ride. Now I will admit to watching some of the "Monster Jam" series on speed channel and when they say you cant tell just how large they are unless you're in person, they are not kidding. Massive vehicles.

They also had the rock climbing buggies there which although very slow, are impressive in their own right, with the ability to get over almost everything.

For the most part I was at this stand, and for the third time in a row the dogs went with and did draw some traffic for me that otherwise wouldnt have stopped by the booth as this fellow shows by stopping to pet Chicky and give some dog talk.

Lucy here doesnt display some of the traits of the Jack Russell breed like here mother does. She doesnt listen as well, and shes not as smart as Chicky either.
But one thing she IS, is cute.

Good dog Lucy. VERY good dog.
Lucy got the canned food this night.

Ofcourse the little kids couldnt resist her either (and also brought their parents to the booth)and she got cuddles and lovin all day long. This little guy was especially impressive for his age and you could tell he was loved.
It made a great end to the day which ended up being pretty successful as well for me. With a few hours left, surrounded by limestone streams, there wasnt much of a decision on what I was going to do next.
