Hi Pad,

The out of focus look in the background is accomplished mostly by the lens in what is called setting the depth of field (DOF) controlled by the f-stop of the lens. Many lens can do this with DSLR camera's. You set the lens to capture a very narrow focus area. Everything in front and everything behind the subject is out of focus. Really makes the subject pop.

This is why I really like DSLR cameras as most point and shoot cameras just really can't accomplish this kind of look.

Posted another example below. In this picture you can see both the front area and back area are both out of focus. The DOF is very narrow.

Sorry about the over geekness of a picture.

Drakes seem to last 7-10 days and depends on the stream as the timing of it all. After about three days females change one final time into a white bodied spinner called coffin flies. Not sure of the final transition of the males. Pictures included were just taken over the last two days.

The Green Drake hatch is an amazing spectacle. I saw Drakes and Coffin Flies on Saturday in Weikert. The Drakes started in Coburn Saturday.

New chest pack this year. Never carry a net. I don't feel I need to bring a trout in all the way in with a net. If I can touch them and they get off I still count that as a catch.

Just received the demo rods and gear from Tenkara. Anyone interested in checking out the rods please at the Jam send me an email dkile@paflyfish.com or a PM.

Daniel added a Tenkara rod for the raffle!

I have not used this myself so we all can have some fun trying this out.

It blew me off Kettle Creek a week and half ago and we got it again. Not odd that we are getting the wind, but it does seem very extreme and effecting a large area.

JayL,

I know it is all about the fly fishing for so many and didn't want anything to take that away for you.
