I've been bugging my wife to finally get this picture to me. I caught it drift fishing on the last day of my honeymoon. My wife wasn't too happy about getting out of bed at 7am to fish, and she got a little sea sick, but I caught a big fish so it was worth it lol.

Was fishing with about 8 other poeple on the boat. No one was catching anything. My wife hooked onto the bottom about a half an hour before I hooked this fish and it felt exactly the same. I had a crew member get hers off the bottom, so when I thought I had the bottom I handed the rod over and then it started to double over. He handed it back to me and I fought it in in about 10-15 minutes. Came up and he said "that's a trophy baracuda, you want to mount it?" I said "how much does that cost" He said 495, and I asked if there was a decimal point in there lol. My wife felt bad for about 5 minutes that we couldn't afford to do it, but maybe that will give me an excuse next time I land a big fish!

Thought you'd enjoy the picture!

That's a nice cuda but be glad you didn't get it mounted. For a lot less $$ you could get a replica mount of a 20" trout. It's really not a trophy cuda and boat captains down in Florida are notorious for trying to sucker punch tourists into getting mounts of cudas. Local Floridians would not even consider getting a mount of that fish. They might cut it up for shark bait. Nevertheless, cudas are great sport and deserving of a better reputation than they have in FL. Nice job.

thanks... It would have been nice on the wall, but I would rather have a trout on the wall. I still don't know if I'll get a replica or a skin if I do catch that trophy trout, but I'll make that decision when it comes up.

I plan on trying to get into some salt on the fly this summer during my family vacation. Hopefully I'll have another nice fish picture with a fly rod next to it this time!

I'd recommend a replica mount - all you need is a good color photo. I would suggest previewing the taxidermist's work ahead of time as the quality of fish mounts varies a lot - esp here in PA where deer heads are most taxidermist's bread and butter.

As for the captain and the cuda, again, watch out for boat captains trying to sell fishermen on mounts. While I don't have the link, if you google: "mako shark caught on reel work in ft lauderdale" you can see a YouTube video of just this sort of problem. Very unprofessional behavior.
