I caught this brookie a little over a year ago, and I've always wondered what was up with the deformity near the dorsal fin. Anyone have any ideas? I never thought it was from a predator, but I could easily be wrong.

Looks like a healed over heron scar but I'm not sure. The photo isn't clear.

I've never seen a heron on this stream, but that doesn't mean their not there. I have seen kingfishers around it, is that a possibility?

Certainly could be a kingfisher although they tend to take smaller fish, maybe when this guy was a fingerling. It may just also be an odd, natural birthmark or deformity.
