Made a little side trip today just to catch my first native brookie of the year and mess around with the GoPro in the process. This guy was a total camera ham, although this was the only shot I got that clearly shows the red spots on the dorsal. Can't remember ever seeing that before!

Neat! Those red spots on the dorsal aren't common but if you look at enough wild brookies you will see 'em. Some wild browns have the spots too but they're even more rare.

 Re: Native
I actually did catch a wild brown recently that had the red dorsal spots. Air temp was 23 though so I didn't want to mess with getting a pic. I'm pretty positive that was the first brown I've seen with it. Willing to bet I've caught other brookies like this one, probably from the same stream, but just didn't notice the spots at the time.

I have a nice little underwater video clip of this guy but I'm keeping the video private for now. Working on a (very amateur) video project and want it to be decent before I share. Hoping to wrap it all up by May.

Very neat!!! I have never seen that on a wild brook trout. I catch several browns a year on the Savage with that characteristic.
