Credit goes to my brother Brian for snapping the photo. There is a story that goes with the photo, that I will try to get around to posting at some point.

Although the valley looks like it may be beaver-pond influenced, there are no beaver dams around and haven't been for at least twenty years, which is how long I've been going to this area. However, there is definitely a meadow here and it would not surprise me that at some point in the not too distant past, it had been colonized by beavers. There is a thick layer of clay in the stream bank, which makes great undercut banks. It is not consistent with the local geology and soils of the area, but would be consistent with formation in a low gradient pool, created by some sort of obstruction, that caused a thick layer of clay to be deposited.
