I took advantage of the low flows and spent the last two evenings on the Middle Yough Trophy Trout Section. The water flow was between 800cfs-980cfs where I was fishing. The water temperature was around 53 degrees with a nice green tint to it. The first evening I got extremely lucky and fished over the best Quill Gordon hatch, actually the best May Fly Hatch I have ever fished on the Yough. I also witnessed Grannom's and Tan Caddis hatching in heavy numbers. When it all comes together like it did that night, you get a different perspective on the Yough.
The second night was still productive but no Quill Gordon Hatch. Still more rising fish then I'm used to seeing on the Yough, and nymph's were working bettern then usual too. Tan Caddis were in the air and some of the egg layers brought some good fish to the surface. By far the best two day fishing stretch I have ever had on this tough river! Pics on the blog enjoy! www.grobe33.blogspot.com

Excellent report - great to hear about the many bugs hatching on the Yough.
Although you're not required to post pics......it would be nice if you'd take the time to post a pic or two here in this thread rather than ask us to visit your personal blog. Thanks, Dave W

This method uses no PAFF bandwidth, but shares the photo right in line if you wish. It involved copying the url, preceding it with "img src=" then quotes around the url, then a space, then the word width= and in quotes, the width desired, somewhere between 600 and 720 is ideal. Here's what happens:

Did you only catch bows? This spring I don't think I have caught one yet, but I have landed same dandy browns already.

Jack,
Thanks for the tips! All the fish we caught those two nights were rainbows except 1 brown my brother got.

grobe, it is difficult to give an html tutorial within our site because the program tries to render it as html code. Go here and see the code I am describing:
http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/images/_IMG_WIDTH.html The "Alt" "tag" or "parameter" is unnecessary, but the "width" parameter is key so that the margins here on PAFF aren't blown by a large image. 720 is max, 640 is probably better for those of us that might be viewing on smaller monitors. If you want to see it "in action" open a reply to my post and select "quote." This should allow you to peek at the code I used to display the rainbow above.

Nice to know someone caught fish there. I ended up fishing the yough Sunday morning...with NO luck.
Went to Ramcatt. Fished mostly from the rocks. Saw no fish rising. Even with low water, that section is wading unfriendly. Found it interesting that the Yough isn't really early according to the typical hatches...unlike most other waters. Ended up on Big Meadow. Ran low on time,so fished from the yough up to the slides. Caught one 10-11in rainbow. i never have seen a real hatch on the yough, and would love to see how many fish are in there....just to make the skunking alittle worse.

That's crazy good for that river. I've had my share of skunkings and tough outings on the Yough, but when it all comes together... watch out! I haven't fly fished it much, but my two most memorable outings were during the Cicadas in '99 and a caddis hatch as a teen with my Pap. You had to try to keep fish off your line.
Those are all awesome bows by the way. Love the white tipped fins.

I went back out tonight and reality set in, only managed 1 fish on a streamer. My adventure seeking buddies wading across to the railroad side and managed 6 nice bow's on Copper John's. The bug activity was sparse and didn't see anything rise. The Yough remains a mystery...........
